Best photos for a pet cross stitch portrait
The best conversion photo is not always the most dramatic photograph. A stitchable source has one clear subject, readable lighting, a useful crop, and enough contrast between the pet and background.
Choose these qualities
- Sharp eyes: focus should land on the face.
- Soft directional light: texture remains visible in black and white fur.
- Simple background: fewer background colors mean fewer thread changes.
- Large subject: the head should fill roughly 60–80% of the crop.
- Natural color: avoid strong filters and colored room lighting.
Avoid these problems
- Very dark screenshots or compressed social-media images
- Busy grass, blankets, or furniture crossing the outline
- Motion blur, closed eyes, and harsh flash
- A full-body pet occupying a tiny part of a wide photo
- Copyrighted photographs you do not have permission to use
Quick test before committing
Convert at 48 stitches first. If you can still recognize the face, move to 72 stitches for the final chart. If not, improve the crop or choose another photo before adding colors.
