Create a pet memorial cross stitch pattern
A memorial portrait should feel familiar before it feels technically impressive. Choose a photograph that captures an expression or habit you remember, then simplify everything that does not support that memory.
Choose the photograph emotionally first
A slightly imperfect but meaningful photograph may be the right one. Improve it with a tighter crop and restrained color adjustments instead of replacing its character.
Keep the design calm
Use a simple background, moderate palette, and enough empty fabric around the portrait. Names and dates can be added later with a separate alphabet pattern so the face remains the focus.
Plan the finished object
A 5–7 inch portrait works well in a hoop or small frame. Use the Aida size estimate before stitching, then add at least 3 inches of fabric around every edge.
